The Eternal Search: The Water Witch and the Mother’s SoulI am the Water Witch. This time, I visited an old town that was being swallowed by the waves of the information age. My mission is to help people in need. In a corner of the town, I met a ghost. She was a mother who had lost her son, a police officer, twenty years ago. Even after her death, she continued to search for him.

Her journey was very difficult. She traveled by train and bus, reading old newspapers. As a spirit, she had to avoid evil spirits while looking for information. In this fast-paced digital world, her analog search seemed lonely and old-fashioned.

Finally, she found a hint in an old newspaper: “He seems to be in a town called XX.” She hurried to that town with her tired spirit body. Twenty years had already passed.

Searching through the town of XX, the mother was completely exhausted. Just as she was about to give up, a newspaper was handed to her.

I was there, using my magic to hide on my broom. I took the form of a “newspaper reporter” to give her the latest information for free. The newspaper I gave her contained the news that her son had passed away just yesterday.

”Oh…” she whispered, starting to cry quietly. She turned around to thank the reporter who gave her the paper.

At that moment, the person standing there was not me. It was her son, wearing his police uniform.

”Mother…”

The moment she heard his voice, she collapsed into his arms. They hugged each other tightly, and the twenty years of sadness and searching seemed to melt away.

I watched their reunion from the sky. I could not hear their words, but their hug and the glowing particles of light told me everything. Eventually, the two of them faded away like water and rose to heaven together.

Watching them, I felt a deep sense of relief and joy. Tears fell from my eyes.

”I am so glad you finally found each other,” I whispered.

I turned my broom. My journey as the Water Witch continues. I am heading to the next person who needs my help.

私は水の魔女です。今回訪れたのは、急速な情報化の波に飲まれつつある古い街です。街の片隅で、私は一人の幽体（霊）に出会いました。彼女は20年前に警察官だった息子を失った母親で、死してなお、愛する息子の安否を案じてさまよっていました。

彼女の旅は困難の連続でした。幽体でありながら電車やバスを乗り継ぎ、古い新聞を読み漁りました。情報社会の喧騒の中で、彼女のアナログな捜索は時代に取り残されながらも、ひたすら続きました。

ついに彼女は、古い新聞に「息子が〇〇という街にいるらしい」という情報を見つけました。20年という月日が流れていましたが、彼女は疲弊した体でその街へ向かいました。

街を探し回り、諦めかけたその時、横から一枚の新聞が差し出されました。私は箒の上から「新聞記者」の姿に化け、魔法を使って最新の新聞を彼女に手渡したのです。その新聞には、息子が昨日亡くなったという記事が載っていました。

「ああ……」と、彼女は静かに泣き始めました。彼女が記者にお礼を言おうと振り向いたその瞬間、そこに立っていたのは私ではなく、警察官の制服を着た息子本人でした。

「母さん……」

その声を聞き、彼女は崩れるように息子を抱きしめました。二人が抱き合う姿の中で、20年間の喪失と孤独が溶けていくようでした。

私は空からその再会を見守りました。言葉は聞こえませんでしたが、溢れる光の粒がすべてを物語っていました。やがて二人は水に溶けるように消え、天へと昇っていきました。
