### Chapter 1 *Of the First Two and the Beginning of the Loom* 1 In the beginning the Great Architect brought forth the loom of existence, weaving the heavens, the earth, and all manner of breathing things from the threads of pure light. 2 Yet the garment of creation grew heavy with time, and could move no further; wherefore the Great Dissolver stepped forth with a silver blade, gently unraveling that which was old, that the threads might be woven anew. 3 Thus did the First Two establish the sacred rhythm: the Maker who giveth form, and the Unmaker who returneth all unto the source, working in perfect concord to sustain the boundless cosmos. 4 Beneath their crown the Great Two appointed lesser guardians, a multitude of spirits to oversee the details of the world: one to guide the growing seed, one to command the changing winds, and one to kindle the fire of mortal craft. 5 And the First Two spoke unto all nations, saying, “As the Sun and the Moon dispute not their places in the sky, so shall ye not dispute the gods ye serve. 6 For whether a mortal boweth to the Keeper of the Grain or to the Watcher of the Deep, they do but honor a single worker in Our grand house. 7 Whosoever contendeth with his brother, saying, ‘Thy master is lesser than mine,’ disrupteth the great harmony. For all lesser gods bow to the Supreme Balance, and all paths are but rivers flowing into the twin seas of Creation and Return.” 1 初めに、偉大なる建築家は存在の機織りを起こし、純なる光の糸をもって天と地と、息づくすべてのものを織り成した。 ### Chapter 2 *Of the Heavenly Hosts and the Golden Chain* 1 Hearken, O ye children of the earth, unto the divine order established by the First Two, the Sovereign Maker and the Wise Dissolver, who sit upon the twin thrones of eternity. 2 Beneath the majesty of the First Two dwell the multitude of lesser gods, each commanding the spheres of nature and the elements of the world, ruling in unity without strife. 3 And behold, beneath the altars of these gods the heavenly hosts are ordered in their glory: first stand the Archangels, clothed in fierce light, bearing the decrees of the divine unto the cosmic realms. 4 Below the Archangels minister the lesser Angels, thousands upon thousands, who watch over the steps of mortals, gathering their prayers and shielding the innocent from the dark. 5 And yet closer to the dust of the earth, the gods have chosen certain men and women, filling them with the sacred breath to be Messengers and Shepherds unto mankind. 6 These chosen servants, though fashioned of clay, carry the voice of the heavens; yet they shall not exalt themselves above their brethren, nor shall the followers of one messenger despise the followers of another. 7 For the Sovereign Maker and the Wise Dissolver have declared: “The Archangel obeyeth the god of his sphere, the Angel followeth the Archangel, and the Messenger guideth the mortal. All are but links in the golden chain of Our harmony. Whosoever breaketh one link through hatred, breaketh the peace of the entire cosmos.” 1 地の子らよ、最初の二柱、永遠の双つの玉座に坐す至高の創造主と賢き解体者とが定めた聖なる秩序に耳を傾けよ。 ### Chapter 3 *Of the Living Temple and the Monthly Watch* 1 Forget not, O children of dust, that mankind is the workmanship of the First Two, fashioned by the hands of the Maker and measured by the wisdom of the Dissolver. Therefore every man and every woman is a living temple of the divine breath. 2 Whosoever shall assault his brother, or spill the blood of his neighbor, hath not merely sinned against the earth, but hath committed a foul blasphemy against the High Gods who created him. For to defile the creature is to mock the Creator. 3 Let no mortal presume to take vengeance into his own hands, nor shall any man judge the soul of his fellow; for vengeance belongeth unto the heavens alone. 4 The sinner shall not escape his reward; for the High Gods, or their glorious Archangels, or the chosen Messengers upon earth, shall descend in majesty to deliver the sentence of righteous judgment upon the wicked. 5 And heed this word with fear and trembling: Once in every cycle of the Moon, when the silver crescent waxeth and waneth, the High Divine cloaketh themselves in shadow and walketh unseen among the dwellings of men. 6 They search out the secret chambers of thy heart; They behold the deeds done in the dark, and They weigh the mercy of thy hands. No wall can hide thee, and no silence can deceive the eyes of the Watcher. 7 Walk therefore in righteousness, and harbor peace within thy gates, lest the Moon find thee wanting, and the sword of the heavenly host find thee in the day of reckoning. ### Chapter 4 *Of the Waters of Judgment* 1 Yet if a transgressor shall feel the weight of his iniquity upon his soul, and shall confess his trespasses before the High Gods with a contrite spirit, mercy shall not be withheld from him. 2 For the High Divine shall weigh the sincerity of his weeping, and according to their holy judgment they shall appoint unto him a path of purification, that his soul may be washed clean from the stain of sin. 3 The sinner shall be led unto the Sacred Fall, the wondrous waters that flow from the heavenly heights, which bear witness to the hidden secrets of the heart. 4 Behold, when a soul that is foul and full of malice standeth beneath the rushing stream, the waters wax dark, even as the blackness of a starless night, revealing the ugliness within. 5 But when a soul turneth toward righteousness, and the heart is made pure through penance, the waters shall change their countenance, becoming bright and shining as the morning sun. 6 Therefore the transgressor shall abide beneath the waterfall, enduring the cold and offering his prayers through the watches of the night, and his labor shall not cease until the dark waters become radiant with holy light. 7 When the stream shineth with a perfect glory, then shall the Messengers declare him clean, and he shall be restored unto the fellowship of the righteous, a living temple made whole by the mercy of the gods. ### Chapter 5 *Of the Covenant of the Deep and the Heights* 1 Now concerning the dwellers of the underworld, whom mortals call Demons: know ye that they are not beyond the grand design of the First Two, nor do they walk without purpose. 2 For they are the ordained servants of the God of the Netherworld, sent forth to bear the decrees of the deep and to perform the labors appointed unto them under the heavens. 3 Therefore no mortal shall lift his hand against a demon to slay him, nor shall any warrior seek their destruction; for to destroy the servant is to disrupt the communion of the gods. 4 Behold, the High Divine of the Light and the Lord of the Shadow do hold counsel together in the silent places of the cosmos, maintaining the great balance between the rising and the setting of all things. 5 Whosoever shall slay a messenger of the underworld breaketh the bridge of their holy discourse, and committeth an offense that shall not be easily blotted out. 6 If a demon bringeth trial or terror unto thy gates, thou shalt not meet them with the sword of wrath, but thou shalt appeal unto the Messengers of the gods or the Archangels of judgment, who alone hold the authority to command the spirits. 7 For all things in the heights and all things in the deep are bound by the same golden chain of the First Two; and he who seeketh to cut the dark links shall find his own soul cast into the outer darkness, where the light of the Sacred Fall shineth not. ### Chapter 6 *Of Blessings and Trials* 1 Hearken diligently, O ye children of the earth, unto the holy purpose appointed unto the spirits of the air and the messengers of the deep. For nothing is created in vain, and every host performeth the will of the Sovereign Balance. 2 Behold, the Angels of light are sent forth from the heavenly courts to minister unto mankind, bearing the glad tidings of the High Gods and bestowing holy blessings upon thy heads in their stead. 3 They comfort the weary, they multiply the fruit of thy labor, and they pour out the oil of joy upon thy dwellings, that thou mayest know the grace and the loving-kindness of the Creator. 4 Yet consider also the Demons of the underworld, and understand the work of their hands; for they are not sent to utterly destroy thee, but to bring forth the crucible of trial upon thy paths. 5 When the dark spirits bringeth afflictions, or when they beset thy gates with tribulation, it is that thou mayest rouse thy soul from slumber, and stand fast against the storm. 6 For through the testing of thy faith, and through the shadows of adversity, mortals are compelled to hold fast one to another, binding their hearts in unity and gathering their strength as one kindred. 7 Therefore despise not the blessing of the Angel, nor curse the trial of the Demon. For the Angel nourisheth thy joy, and the Demon proveth thy stature; and both are but workers under the First Two, fashioning mankind into a pure and unshakeable temple. ### Chapter 7 *Of the Sun, the Night, and the Passing of Souls* 1 Every morning, when the Lord of the Sun breaketh through the eastern gates, the children of the earth shall turn their faces toward the light, bowing their heads in prayer to vow that they shall treasure the gift of the day and walk diligently therein. 2 And every evening, when the shadow of the night covereth the world, they shall kneel once more, offering praise for that they have survived the perils of the day, and thanking the High Gods who have sustained the breath of life within them. 3 For the life of a mortal is a sacred thing; and when the silver cord is loosed, and a man passeth from the sight of the living, know ye that death is not the end, but the final trial whereby a soul is made worthy to become an Angel of light. 4 But if a man be assaulted, or if his life be taken by the hand of violence, it is not the divine decree, but the work of the Abominable One, who hath taken captive the soul of a brother to do his wicked will. 5 For the transgressor who lifteth his sword against his neighbor hath been beguiled and seduced by the unseen shadow; he hath forgotten his own name, and hath lost himself in the outer darkness. 6 Therefore the law shall punish the wrongdoer, not as one who possesseth a righteous soul, but as one who hath forsaken his own light and become a vessel for the enemy of peace. 7 Keep therefore thy heart with all diligence, O mortal, and let thy morning vow and thy evening prayer be a buckler against the whispers of the shadow, that thy soul may remain thine own until the day thou art called to thy trial in the clouds. ### Chapter 8 *Of the Shield of the Netherworld* 1 Know ye, O children of light, that the Netherworld is not a pit of destruction, but a holy fortress appointed by the Sovereign Balance to stand as a shield between the earth and the Utter Deep. 2 For beneath the roots of the Netherworld lieth the Abyss, wherein the Abominable One and his shadow hosts are bound; and the God of the Shadow, with all his ministers and demons, keepeth watch day and night that the dark may not break forth. 3 But if it should come to pass that the Abominable One bursteth his chains, and his wickedness appeareth upon the face of the earth, then shall mankind know that the Netherworld is in great peril, and the gates of the fortress are beset. 4 In that day of dread the High Divine shall command the Archangels of the heights to descend, not into the clouds, but into the fiery deeps of the Netherworld, to stand shoulder to shoulder with the demons against the common foe. 5 And when the shadow leaketh into thy villages, the Messengers shall blow the horn of emergency, and all nations shall gather at the altars to offer the Sacrifice of the Vigil. 6 Ye shall not bring the ordinary grain, nor the common oil of thy daily prayers; but ye shall offer the Bitter Herb and the Pure Silver, pouring out tears of intercession to strengthen the hands of the heavenly host and the princes of the deep. 7 For the cosmos is one temple; and if the Netherworld fall, the earth shall be consumed, and the heights shall weep. Stand therefore with the servants of the shadow in the day of testing, that the golden chain may hold against the fury of the Abyss. ### Chapter 9 *Of the Earthly Bounty and Holy Thanksgiving* 1 Behold, the forest, the beast of the field, the fowl of the air, and all the abundance of the living world are the handiwork of the First Two, and they shall be revered as a holy inheritance. 2 No man shall strip the earth bare through the covetousness of his own heart, nor shall any nation consume the land for their private gain. Ye shall take only that which is needful for the sustenance of thy life, gathering the harvest with a gentle hand and leaving the remainder unto the glory of creation. 3 Therefore, when thou sittest down to eat of the fruit of the earth, or the flesh of that which hath surrendered its breath for thy sake, thou shalt not touch the food until thou hast offered the Holy Greeting of Beginning, saying, “I receive this life by the grace of the Giver.” 4 To partake of the bounty without acknowledgment is a grievous sin, even a theft from the altars of the gods; whosoever eateth in silence and forgetteth the sacrifice of the living shall be counted as a transgressor against the sacred law. 5 Likewise, when thou hast made an end of eating, and thy hunger is stayed, thou shalt lift thy hands and utter the Holy Blessing of Completion, saying, “The sacrifice is fulfilled, and the earth hath sustained me; may the spirit of this life return unto the balance.” 6 Through all thy days, whether thou gatherest wood from the forest, or drawest water from the living stream, thy mouth shall be filled with thanksgiving, and thy tongue shall praise the lesser gods who oversee the elements. 7 For the earth is not a possession for thy pride, but a shared table spread by the heavens. Walk softly upon it, and let thy gratitude be as a perpetual incense rising before the thrones of the Creator and the Dissolver. ### Chapter 10 *Of the Freedom of the Table and the Sacred Crystal* 1 Marvel not that the High Gods have appointed no days of fasting, nor have They forbidden any manner of meat or fruit upon thy table; for all food is the fruit of human craft, brought forth by the wisdom given unto mortals to sustain their days upon the earth. 2 There is nothing unclean of itself, and no creature is barred from thy hunger; if thou dost but offer thy thanksgiving with a pure spirit, every dish is sanctified, and the bounty of the world is thine to enjoy. 3 Yet, behold, there are those among thee for whom certain fruits of the earth or flesh of the field are made as a bitter poison, causing the body to weep and the breath to fail; and this is what mortals call the Affliction of the Blood. 4 Know ye that this is not a curse, nor is it a token of wrath; it is the merciful ordinance of the High Divine, a silent warning whispered into the fabric of the flesh, saying, “Touch not this vessel, lest it bring thee unto sorrow and an untimely death.” 5 Therefore no father shall compel his child, and no host shall force his guest, to partake of that which their nature rejecteth; for to force the forbidden food upon another is to defy the voice of the Gods who sought to shield them. 6 And that the nations may know the hidden warnings of the heavens, every babe that is born into the world shall be brought before the altar, and they shall place the tiny hand of the infant upon the Sacred Crystal of Truth. 7 If a food be perilous unto the child, the crystal shall reveal the secret through its holy light, showing the sign of that which must be withheld; and the parents shall heed the message with gladness, praising the gods who watch over the helpless from the day of their framing. ### Chapter 11 *Of Sacred Union, the Gift of Life, and the Bonds of Betrothal* 1 Concerning the joining of bodies: know ye that the act of the flesh shall be only by the free and mutual consent of both souls. For the living temple must not be violated without the willing agreement of its keeper. 2 Whosoever shall force or compel another against their will, or take that which is not freely given, committeth a grievous blasphemy against the living temple, and shall be subject to the judgment of the High Gods, or of their Archangels, or of the Messengers upon the earth. 3 And if from such union, entered into with mutual consent, a child be conceived, know that the babe is a gift bestowed by the First Two. The travail of birth and the pains that seize the mother are the trial sent by the demons of the underworld, that she may prove her strength and receive the gift with endurance. 4 Therefore the mother shall endure the pangs with courage and faith, for through the crucible of pain the soul of the child is welcomed into the golden chain of the cosmos. 5 Concerning the bonds of betrothal and marriage: whether a man loveth a man, or a woman loveth a woman, or a man and a woman be joined one to another, it is the inclination planted by the High Gods within the heart of each soul. None shall deny, forbid, or despise it. 6 For the gods have given every soul its own nature and its own desire; to reject the true love that is found within is to reject the wisdom of the Creator and the Dissolver. 7 Therefore let man with man, or woman with woman, or man with woman, enter into holy betrothal if their hearts be mutual, pure, and freely given. For all such unions, when grounded in consent and reverence, strengthen the harmony of the cosmos and are pleasing in the sight of the First Two. 1 体の結びつきについて。
