The Forest of Mimicry: A Lyrebird’s SongKaren and I were walking through a forest in Australia. Suddenly, a woman ran toward us.

“Help! I can’t find my child! Have you seen a little boy around here?” she cried.

“Don’t worry. We will help you find him,” I replied.

Then, Karen, the black cat, warned me. “Be careful, Seren. Lyrebirds live in this area. Don’t get lost!”

At that moment, we heard a small voice from deep in the woods.

“Mum, help me!”

”This way!” Karen shouted, and we followed the voice with the woman. However, Karen suddenly stopped.

“Oh no, we were tricked,” he muttered.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Look up at the trees,” he said.

There was a bird with beautiful feathers. It was a lyrebird. We realized the truth: the bird was just mimicking the child’s voice it had heard before. The woman screamed her son’s name, “Jack!!!” and her voice echoed through the forest.

The woman began to cry loudly. I didn’t know what to say, so I just hugged her tightly.

“You did your best,” I whispered.

Through this sad experience, I made a new promise to myself. From now on, I must listen to the details of a story more carefully before I take action.

●全訳：模倣の森：コトドリの歌●

カレンと私はオーストラリアの森を歩いていました。すると突然、一人の女性が私達の方へ走ってきました。

「助けて！子供が見当たらないの！このあたりで小さな男の子を見かけなかった？」彼女は泣き叫びました。

「心配しないで。私達が一緒に探してあげるわ」と私は答えました。

その時、黒猫のカレンが警告しました。「気をつけろ、セレン。この辺りにはコトドリが住んでいる。道に迷うなよ！」

その瞬間、森の奥から小さな声が聞こえてきました。

「お母さん、助けて！」

「こっちだ！」カレンが叫び、私達は女性と共にその声を追いました。しかし、カレンが突然立ち止まりました。

「しまった、だまされたぜ」と彼は呟きました。

「どうしたの？」と私が尋ねると、

「木の上を見てみろ」と彼は言いました。

そこには美しい羽を持つ鳥がいました。コトドリでした。私達は真実に気づきました。その鳥は、以前に聞いた子供の声を真似していただけだったのです。女性は息子の名前「ジャック！！！」を叫び、その声は森中に響き渡りました。
