The Amber Candy: A Night in the Haunted MansionI am the Water Witch. It was a terrible disaster. On my way, I was caught in a mysterious and terrifying storm. I hurried into an old mansion in the middle of a deep forest.

The wind stopped. The moment I opened the door, a heavy silence and the smell of mold swallowed me. To be honest, although I am a witch, I am not good at “haunted houses.” I was trembling with fear.

“Is anyone here?” I asked, but there was no answer.

In the corridor, I saw a pale girl standing by a window. She was not wet at all, despite the heavy rain. Her eyes looked like a deep, dark abyss. She told me that this mansion was a ruin forgotten for hundreds of years.

“Please find my master’s pendant,” she whispered. “Otherwise, I cannot leave here.”

I felt terrified, but I decided to help her. I searched through the mud in the garden using my water magic. After several hours, I found a gold chain at the bottom of a fountain.

“I found it! Is this it?” I asked.

The moment she took the pendant, her face changed. I thought she would turn into a scary ghost, but I was wrong. A pure and innocent smile, like a human girl, appeared on her face.

“Thank you,” she said. “Now I can finally see him.”

That night, she led me to an old cemetery behind the mansion. She offered the pendant to a gravestone and closed her eyes. She gave me a small piece of amber candy as a gift.

When I ate it, it tasted like a warm memory of being loved by someone. It was a very sweet and gentle taste.

The next morning, the storm was over. We held hands and opened the front door together.

“Are you ready?” I asked.

“Yes,” she replied with a bright face.

But when I looked back, the mansion was gone. There was no gate and no walls. And the warmth of her hand, which I had been holding until a moment ago, disappeared too.

Only two old gravestones stood quietly in the bright light.

I looked in my pocket. There was one candy left.

“I see… I didn’t just stay for the rain; I helped someone’s ‘final journey’.”

Remembering her beautiful smile, I felt a little bit sad but happy.

My journey continues.

私は水の魔女。ひどい災難でした。旅の途中で、不気味で恐ろしい嵐に見舞われたのです。私は深い森の中にある古い屋敷に逃げ込みました。

風が止みました。扉を開けた瞬間、重苦しい静寂とカビの臭いが私を飲み込みました。正直に言うと、魔女ではありますが「お化け屋敷」は苦手なのです。私は恐怖で震えていました。

「誰かいるの？」と尋ねましたが、返事はありませんでした。

廊下で、窓辺に立つ青白い少女を見つけました。ひどい雨だったにもかかわらず、彼女は全く濡れていませんでした。彼女の瞳は深い奈落のようでした。彼女はこの屋敷が数百年前に忘れ去られた廃墟だと語りました。

「主人のペンダントを探して。そうしないと、ここを去れないの」と彼女は囁きました。

怖かったのですが、私は彼女を助けることにしました。水魔法を使って、庭の泥の中を探しました。数時間後、噴水の底で金の鎖を見つけました。
