Eternal Bonds: Beyond the PainWe had just entered the country, but the square was already filled with screams. A father was crying because his daughter had been kidnapped. I tried to run immediately, but Karen grabbed my collar.

”Wait, Seren. Do you have a photo of her?” Karen asked calmly.

I smiled, thinking how lucky I am to have her as my partner. She is always better at handling situations than I am.

We chased the criminal and cornered him. Before I could use my magic, Karen’s broom hit the man’s face. He fell to the ground. However, just as he lost consciousness, he struck Karen’s side with a final blow. I heard the terrible sound of breaking bones.

”Karen!!” I screamed.

I restrained the criminal and sent him to jail while crying. When I ran back, Karen was already standing up as if nothing had happened. This is the “self-regeneration” of a witch—a blessing that feels like a curse, turning any wound into a mere scratch.

That night, we were having warm soup in an old inn.

“Did it hurt, Karen?” I asked quietly.

“I forgot already,” she replied, drinking her soup. “It’s already healed.”

But I knew how much pain she had endured to protect me.

We are immortal witches. The people we love die first, and we are always left behind. For hundreds of years, we have said “goodbye” countless times. But tonight, I felt different.

”This might sound strange,” I said. “But I love you, Karen. Please stay by my side forever.”

Karen stopped her spoon for a moment. Then, she smiled with the kindest face I had ever seen.

“I love you too, Seren. I won’t go anywhere until you are ready.”

Outside the window, the endless night sky spread out. But as long as I have this warm soup and Karen’s presence, I want this journey to continue forever.
