Reiko hailed a taxi to head home, but unfortunately got caught in traffic jams, making the trip take longer than expected.

When she entered the living room of the apartment, she found Misaki searching for something amidst a sea of old documents and envelopes scattered across the floor.

Reiko strode over and reproached her.

“Hey, what is the meaning of this, Misaki? Her parents may be going to be offended as you suddenly left. Hey, are you listening to me?”

Seeming not to hear Reiko at all, Misaki flipped through the envelopes one by one, checking their contents. Finally, she picked up a specific document and let out a heart-wrenching sigh.

She held the document out over her shoulder toward Reiko, who was closing in on her. Confused, Reiko took it reflexively, but upon seeing what was written there, she gasped loudly.

“Misaki… this can’t be…”

Misaki remained seated on the floor, looking utterly dazed.

At Mari’s home, Takeshi’s smartphone rang. With one arm still around Mari — who had managed to process the situation and regain her composure — he slid the icon to answer the call.

“Hello? Oh, Mom Reiko. What happened? Huh? What do you mean?”

Tilting his head in confusion, Takeshi spoke to Mari’s mother.

“Um, excuse me. Mom Reiko says she wants to speak with you.”

Mari’s mother took Takeshi’s phone and held it to her ear.

“Yes, speaking. No, please, the apology should come from me; don’t give it another thought. Pardon? What do you mean? We, and Mari, too? A DNA test?”
