1. The Sea of Trees: The Magic Glasses of ReunionI am the Water Witch. One evening, my partner Karen and I decided to camp in the “Sea of Trees,” a mysterious place where the border between the living and the dead becomes blurred.
While Karen was making a fire, we heard a clear bell sound. It was the parade of the dead. I quickly put out the fire so as not to mislead them. However, we found a young girl who had been left behind. She was a ghost looking for her mother.
We followed her to an old house in the forest, where we met a man. He was crying while repairing a ragged doll.
“My daughter was killed by a bear,” he said. “If I had returned from hunting sooner, she might be alive now. I just want to fix this doll for her.”
The girl was standing right beside him, saying, “I’m here, Papa,” but he could neither see nor touch her.
Remembering my own past loss, I couldn’t stay silent. I gave the man a pair of silver glasses.
“Please use these,” I said.
The moment he put them on, his world turned into vivid colors. He could finally see his daughter’s rosy cheeks and feel her warmth.
“Welcome home, my treasure,” the man sobbed, hugging his daughter. The magic glasses temporarily melted the boundary between them.
I left the house quietly before they disappeared into the light. Karen was waiting for me at the entrance of the forest.
“Where have you been?” she asked.
“I just went to pick up something I forgot,” I replied.
Karen didn’t ask any more questions but gently patted my head. Her hand was still warm from the campfire.
As the morning sun began to clear the mist, we started walking toward the next town. We will continue to light the way for someone today.

少女はすぐそばに立ち、「パパ、私はここだよ」と言っていましたが、彼には娘を見ることも触れることもできませんでした。
自分自身の過去の喪失を思い出し、私は黙っていられませんでした。私は男に銀細工の眼鏡を渡しました。

カレンはそれ以上何も聞きませんでしたが、優しく私の頭を撫でてくれました。彼女の手には、まだ焚き火の温もりが残っていました。
朝日が霧を晴らし始め、私たちは次の街へと歩き出しました。私たちは今日も、誰かのために道を照らし続けます。
