The Chilly Wind on the Rooftop: The Pain of a WitchWe were visiting a bookstore when a man suddenly started shouting, “Give me the money!” People screamed and rushed to the exit. I tried to help everyone, but I heard a dull sound of someone being hurt.

I ran to a woman who had collapsed on the floor. Black blood was spreading across the ground. I held her hand, but the warmth was fading away rapidly. Even though Aira used her teleportation magic to send the woman to the hospital, I couldn’t stop trembling.

”I couldn’t save her again…” I whispered, feeling deep despair.

I walked to the hospital’s rooftop with heavy steps. I stood near the fence and looked down, feeling as if I wanted to disappear. At that moment, Aira hugged me tightly from behind.

”Wait, Seren! It’s okay, I’m right here,” she said. Her warmth and the beat of her heart slowly calmed my breathing. Her scent and kindness pierced my heart, but they also saved me.

Later, the other survivors came to us and said, “Thank you, Witches. We survived because of you.” Their words made me cry even more. I failed to save one life, but I helped many others survive.

The cold wind is blowing, and the view from the rooftop is blurry because of my tears. However, if there is still something I can do, I must keep going.

●全訳：屋上の冷たい風：魔女の痛み●

書店を訪れていた時、突然男が「金を出せ！」と叫び始めました。人々は悲鳴を上げて出口へ走り出しました。私は全員を助けようとしましたが、誰かが傷つけられる鈍い音が聞こえました。

床に倒れ込んだ女性のもとへ駆け寄ると、黒い血が床に広がっていました。彼女の手を握りましたが、温もりはみるみるうちに消えていきました。アイラが転移魔法で彼女を病院へ送ってくれましたが、私の震えは止まりませんでした。

「また救えなかった……」深い絶望を感じながら、私は囁きました。

私は重い足取りで病院の屋上へ向かいました。柵のそばに立ち、消えてしまいたいような気持ちで下を見つめました。その瞬間、アイラが後ろから私を強く抱きしめました。

「待って、セレン！大丈夫、私がここにいるわ」と彼女は言いました。彼女の温もりと心臓の鼓動が、ゆっくりと私の呼吸を整えてくれました。彼女の香りと優しさが胸に刺さりましたが、同時に私を救ってくれました。

その後、生き残った人々が私達のところへ来て言いました。「ありがとう、魔女様。あなた達のおかげで生き延びることができました」その言葉に、私はさらに声を上げて泣きました。一人の命は救えませんでしたが、他の多くの人々が生きる手助けをしたのです。

冷たい風が吹き、涙で屋上からの景色が歪んで見えます。けれど、もし私にできることがまだあるのなら、私は歩み続けなければなりません。
