The Ice Witch’s Memory: Aira and the Water WitchI am Aira, the Ice Witch. My world was always quiet and covered in pure snow. I lived alone on a white island until one day, a witch suddenly flew into my world.
“Hi! I’m the Water Witch. Can you show me your magic?”
She was like warm spring sunlight, and she melted my frozen heart. We quickly became best friends.
Every time the seasons changed, she visited my island. When she was there, my world became more colorful.
“Aira! Are you there?”
Hearing her voice made my heart dance. But one day, that peace was broken. The ground shook, and black smoke rose from the volcano.
“The volcano might erupt,” I said. “Help me stop it!”
We rushed to the town. I saw a mother trapped under a building and a crying child. Pyroclastic flows were coming. I looked at the Water Witch. Her eyes were filled with determination and hesitation.
(Go. Save them.) I told her with my eyes. I knew her kind heart better than anyone. My role was to support her.
”I’ll save them!” she shouted and flew toward the family.
As she left, I released all my cold magic to stop the lava. Huge clouds of steam rose as my ice hit the fire. Suddenly, the volcano exploded with a roar.
“Aira!” I heard her painful cry from far away.
My consciousness began to fade. At that moment, I remembered something in my house—an old photograph of the two of us.
“I don’t want this to turn into ash,” I whispered.
I used my last bit of magic not to save myself, but to protect a small box containing that photo. My world turned white and I disappeared like mist.
After some time, I felt my soul melting into the falling snow. I heard a trembling voice calling me.
“Aira! Where are you?”
She found me. I gathered ice crystals and appeared in front of her. She was crying, holding the photo I had protected. When she hugged me, I didn’t feel cold at all.
”You’re late,” I said a bit teasedly, so I wouldn’t cry myself.
We had a big feast with the townspeople. We laughed and talked until morning.
The next morning, she prepared to leave.
“Are you leaving already?” I asked.
“Yes. I want to see the world you protected,” she replied.
I smiled and waved goodbye. I am no longer alone. I believe her journey will make this world shine.
“Where shall we meet next? It’s a promise, my best friend.”
I will wait for our next reunion in this quiet snow.

意識が遠のく中、私は家にある一枚の古い写真を思い出しました。
「これだけは灰にしたくない」
私は自分を救うためではなく、写真の入った小さな箱を守るために最後の魔力を使いました。私の世界は白く染まり、霧のように消えました。
しばらくして、私の魂が降る雪に溶けていくのを感じました。震える声が私を呼んでいました。
「アイラ！どこなの！」
彼女が見つけてくれました。私は雪の結晶を集め、彼女の前に姿を現しました。彼女は私が守った写真を握りしめ、泣いていました。抱きしめられた時、少しも冷たく感じませんでした。
「来るの、遅かったじゃん」と、自分が泣かないように少し意地悪く言いました。
街の人々と盛大な宴を開き、私たちは朝まで語り明かしました。
翌朝、彼女は出発の準備をしました。
「もう行くの？」
「ええ。あなたが守った世界を見て回りたいの」と彼女は答えました。
私は笑顔で彼女を見送りました。もう私は一人ではありません。彼女の旅が世界を輝かせると信じています。
「次はどこで会おうか。約束だよ、親友」
私はこの静かな雪の中で、再会を待っています。
