The Wave of Tragedy: Sri Lanka, 2004We were traveling through time again. The guide announced, “This is Sri Lanka, December 26, 2004.” Kurona warned me, “Mother, be careful. Something is wrong with this machine. It shouldn’t take us to such dangerous places.”

”Why are you so worried? We can see the beautiful sea and the railway from here,” I replied. Just then, the ground began to shake violently. “An earthquake?!” I shouted.

Kurona cried, “I knew it! This is the place where the Sri Lanka tsunami train disaster happened!” It was the worst train accident in history.

The train stopped, and many people climbed onto the roof. “Why are they doing that?!” I asked.

“They believed that the train was strong enough to stay safe, so they didn’t run away,” Kurona explained. I wanted to help them, but Kurona held my hand. “Wait, Mother! I know it’s hard, but you must not change history!”

I could only watch as the giant wave swallowed the train and all the people. “Why does God always show me such hell?” I cried in despair.

Kurona hugged me tightly. “Mother, I feel the same pain. But if we keep moving forward, I’m sure something good will happen.” Her warmth made me feel ashamed of my weakness, but I was also filled with gratitude for her love.　

●全訳：悲劇の波：スリランカ、2004年●

私達は再び時を旅していました。案内人が「2004年12月26日、スリランカです」と告げました。クロナが警告しました。「お母さん、気をつけて。この機械はおかしい。こんなに危険な場所に私達を連れてくるはずがないのに」

「どうしてそんなに心配なの？ここからは美しい海と線路が見えるじゃない」と私は答えました。その時、大地が激しく揺れ始めました。「地震？！」私は叫びました。

クロナが叫びました。「やっぱりそうだ！ここはスリランカ津波列車事故が起きた場所だよ！」それは歴史上最悪の列車事故でした。

列車が止まり、多くの人々が屋根の上によじ登りました。「なぜあんなことをしているの？！」私は尋ねました。

「彼らは、列車なら安全だと信じて逃げなかったんだよ」とクロナは説明しました。私は彼らを助けたかったのですが、クロナが私の手を握りました。「待ってお母さん！辛いのは分かるけれど、歴史を変えてはダメだ！」

巨大な波が列車とすべての人々を飲み込んでいくのを、私は見ていることしかできませんでした。「なぜ神様はいつも私にこんな地獄を見せるの？」私は絶望して泣きました。

クロナが私を強く抱きしめてくれました。「お母さん、私も同じ痛みを感じているよ。でも、前を向いて歩き続ければ、きっと良いことがあるよ」彼女の温もりに、私は自分の弱さを恥じると同時に、彼女の愛への感謝でいっぱいになりました。
