The Lost City: Tragedy in PompeiiI woke up in a small room behind a shop. Based on the signs and coins, I realized I was a shop owner in the late 1st century. I wore my signet ring and went down to the shop. The smell of freshly baked bread filled the air, and I could hear a donkey turning a stone mill.

However, the peaceful morning didn’t last long. From the window, I saw a strange cloud over the mountain. It looked like a pine tree. “Oh no, Pompeii is going to disappear!” I shouted. I tried to lead people to the port to find Pliny’s fleet, but the falling ash blocked our view.

Soon, pumice stones began to fall like bullets. I ran into a house for safety, but the roof collapsed under the weight of the stones. Finally, a pyroclastic flow reached the city. The air I breathed was like fire, and I couldn’t tell the difference between the sky and the ground. The city of Pompeii became a silent grave.
