The Burning Balloon: A Test of LifeOne autumn day, Aira invited me to see the red leaves from a hot-air balloon. We boarded the basket and floated up into the sky. The view was beautiful, but suddenly, I heard a strange noise from the burner.

”Snap!!”

With a sharp sound, white gas started leaking, and the balloon began to fall rapidly. The leaking gas caught fire, and flames immediately swallowed the basket. It was a terrifying situation, but Aira stayed calm. She grabbed the burning ropes with her bare hands to control the balloon. Her skin was burned, but it healed instantly because of her magic.

”Hold on tight! Prepare for the impact!” Aira shouted.

We bent our knees and pressed our bodies against the basket. A few seconds later, we hit the ground with a loud crash.

The impact was so strong that the basket was crushed. I heard the terrible sound of our ankle bones breaking. However, because Aira had controlled the balloon until the last second, we survived without a huge explosion.

”Are you okay, Lady Aira?” a man ran toward us.

“Yes, I’m fine,” she replied.

I couldn’t stand up for a while because my heart was beating so fast. But the pride of being a witch and the will to live helped me stand up. I felt that being alive was a miracle. This experience tested our bond and our strength as witches. I will never forget the terror of the sky and the joy of life.

「しっかり捕まって！衝撃に備えて！」アイラが叫びました。

私達は膝を曲げ、バスケットに身を押し付けました。数秒後、大きな音と共に地面に激突しました。

衝撃は凄まじく、バスケットは粉砕されました。私達の足首の骨が砕ける嫌な音が響きました。しかし、アイラが最後の瞬間まで気球を制御したおかげで、大爆発を起こさずに生き延びることができました。

「アイラお嬢様、ご無事ですか！」一人の男性が駆け寄ってきました。

「ええ、大丈夫よ」と彼女は答えました。

心臓が激しく波打っていたので、私はしばらく立ち上がれませんでした。しかし、魔女としての誇りと生きたいという意志が、私を立たせてくれました。生きていることが奇跡のように感じられました。この経験は、私達の絆と魔女としての力を試すものでした。空の恐怖と生の喜びを、私は決して忘れません。
